What would an ideal gift for people over the New Year at home?

Some of us thought at the beginning of this new year to spend time with people in a nursing home, and comes from a couple of them. We are confused gifts to suit them? We have an authority of the house talking and they said that books and clothes with tips ihnen.So at that sweater? It is a choice we have.
